Another Great Auction
A Victorian sterling silver circular presentation salver, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1852. The central field is finely engraved with elaborate scrolling foliage and floral motifs surrounding a central cursive inscription. The salver features a raised gadrooned border and is supported on three scrolling foliate and shell bracket feet. The central field is engraved with the following inscription: PRESENTED To Roger Hurst Esq. J.P. BY THE Pontefract Agricultural Society: as a Tribute for his kindness in allowing the use of his Fields for their first Show; held 29th JULY 1853. The reverse is struck with a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark SR over IED for S. R. and I. E. Dunsby, the Birmingham anchor assay mark, the lion passant sterling silver standard mark, the Queen Victoria duty mark, and the date letter C for 1852-53.
