A George V sterling silver cigarette case of curved rectangular form, manufactured by Walker and Hall Ltd. The case features a polished finish and is hand-engraved with the inscription C.C.L. from A.E.B.J. 1917. The design incorporates a side hinge and a push-button thumb-piece for opening. The interior is finished with a gold-coloured gilt wash and includes the original elasticated retaining bands. Both the lid and base of the interior are struck with a full set of British hallmarks. These include the lion passant for .925 sterling silver, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the capital letter S date mark for the year 1917. The maker’s mark comprises the characters W & H LTD within a quatrefoil border, and the inner rim is stamped WALKER and HALL SHEFFIELD.
