Another Great Auction
A George V sterling silver circular box, likely intended for use as a pill box or snuff box, manufactured by Barker Brothers. The hinged lid features engine-turned decoration with linear and wavy patterns, surrounding a central vacant circular cartouche. A foliate scroll border is positioned at the lower edge of the lid decoration. The interior of the box is finished with a gold-wash gilding. The body bears a full set of English hallmarks including the maker’s mark B & Co for Barker Brothers (Barker Bros & Sons Ltd), an anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, a lion passant for .925 sterling silver fineness, and the date letter P corresponding to 1914. The lid also bears partial hallmarks including the lion passant and maker’s mark.
