An Edwardian sterling silver box of globular, pebble-like form, likely serving as a tobacco or large snuff box. The item features a hinged lid that opens to reveal a gold-washed or gilt interior to both the lid and the base. A pointed metal spike is attached to the internal hinge mechanism. The exterior and the interior lid are stamped with a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark J.G&S for John Grinsell and Sons, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter g for 1906.
