A pair of Victorian sterling silver serving spoons by the renowned silversmiths Hunt and Roskell. These items feature large circular bowls with an intricate ajoure or pierced design composed of interlaced Celtic-style knotwork and scrolling foliage. The bowls are joined to tapering flat handles which are decorated with dense hand engraved geometric and foliate patterns. Each spoon is struck with a full set of British hallmarks on the reverse of the handle. These marks consist of the makers mark J H over R R in a square punch for John Hunt and Robert Roskell, the leopard head for the London assay office, the lion passant indicating sterling silver, and the date letter O for the year 1869.
