Another Great Auction
A Russian silver and parcel-gilt kiddush cup, also known as a small goblet or beaker. The cup features a tapering cylindrical bowl with a flared rim, decorated with bright-cut engraved foliate and floral motifs. To the centre is a rectangular cartouche with a dashed border containing a script monogram. The interior of the bowl retains a gold wash. The vessel stands on a short knopped stem above a circular, stepped, and spreading foot.
The item is struck with hallmarks on both the exterior and interior rim:
Standard Mark: An oval punch containing the number 84 alongside a right-facing woman’s head in profile (kokoshnik mark), indicating a silver fineness of 84 zolotniks (.875 silver).
Maker’s Mark: A rectangular punch containing the Cyrillic letters AE.
Assay Office: A small Greek letter is present within the kokoshnik mark, though it is not clearly legible.
