Another Great Auction
An Edwardian sterling silver calling card case by the silversmith George Heath. The rectangular case is decorated throughout with fine engine-turned basketweave patterning. The front features a central circular cartouche engraved with a heraldic crest depicting a mailed arm embowed holding a dagger. It is designed with a distinctive scalloped wave-form hinged lid and an integrated suspension loop to the upper corner. The interior retains its original gold-wash gilding. The lid rim is struck with a full set of English hallmarks including the maker mark GH for George Heath, the anchor assay office mark for Birmingham, the lion passant sterling silver standard mark, and the date letter m for 1911.
