A Victorian sterling silver snuff box of waisted rectangular form, featuring comprehensive hand-engraved scrolling foliate and floral decoration across all exterior surfaces. The lid displays a central vacant shield-shaped cartouche intended for a monogram. The interior is gold-washed or gilded and contains a hinged, decoratively pierced and engraved grille with scrolling leaf and floral motifs. The piece is fully hallmarked on the interior base and partially hallmarked on the lid. The hallmarks include the R&M maker mark for Robinson & McKewan, the Birmingham anchor assay mark, the lion passant standard mark, the lowercase v date letter for 1845, and the Queen Victoria duty mark.
