A small-scale oil on canvas painting depicting sailing vessels on a choppy sea under a golden-toned sky. The artwork is unsigned and executed in a Romantic marine style. It is presented in a decorative, heavily moulded gilt frame with an oval inner aperture and rectangular outer profile, featuring acanthus leaf and anthemion motifs. The reverse of the canvas is marked with a black ink manufacturer stencil for Winsor & Newton, London. The painting is on a stretched canvas mounted within a wooden backboard.
