Another Great Auction
A collection of faux scrimshaw decorative items, manufactured from moulded resin to simulate 19th-century maritime bone and ivory carvings. The group comprises a large curved form modelled as a sperm whale tooth, decorated with a portrait of a woman and inscribed Rose and Dearest, dated October 1852. Also included is a rectangular busk featuring detailed nautical scenes, whaling vessels, and mountainous landscapes, with multiple inscriptions including Logos, The Whaler, Delta, Green Pt, 1842, and Capt. Thos. Calder. The collection is completed by two smaller cylindrical pieces, one featuring a snarling animal with red pigment highlights and the other decorated with carved rose blossoms and foliage.
