A late 19th-century American silver-plated revolving butter dish manufactured by the Meriden Britannia Company. The circular vessel features a domed lid that rotates into the base on a hinge mechanism. The lid is decorated with a chased and etched Neoclassical border depicting a Greek key pattern and bellflower swags. The main body displays similar etched decoration including Neoclassical swags and medallions. The piece is fitted with a fixed arched handle surmounted by a cast figure of a reclining hound resting on vine leaves. It stands on four decorative bracket feet, each cast with a classical-style mask or bust. Stamped to the rim are the marks: TRIPLE PLATED BY MERIDEN B. COMPANY MADE IN AMERICA and the pattern number 2206.
