A German ? pouch-style coin purse dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, featuring a hinged circular white metal lid and a soft suede pouch. The lid is inset with a medallion in high relief depicting Saint George on horseback slaying a dragon, encircled by a beaded border and the Latin legend S. GEORGIUS EQUITUM PATRONUS. The clasp is stamped with the abbreviation GES. GESCH. within an oval cartouche, indicating the design was legally protected in Germany. The metal mount is attached to a grey suede or chamois leather pouch with a dark leather interior lining. The lid is secured with a thumbpiece and a three-part hinge. Small, worn marks are present on the interior rim near the hinge but are not clearly legible. No standard British sterling silver hallmarks are visible.
