Another Great Auction
A rectangular silver-plated snuff box produced for the Sheffield-based snuff manufacturer Wilson and Co of Sharrow. The lid is decorated with a repousse hunting scene depicting two figures on horseback followed by hounds in a woodland setting. The exterior sides exhibit a horizontal ribbed engine-turned finish. The base of the box is stamped with several marks including J & C, W & Co, SHARROW, MADE IN ENGLAND, and the serial or model number 11457. The absence of sterling silver hallmarks and the presence of rust-coloured oxidation indicate the piece is made of silver-plated base metal rather than solid silver.
