This Royal Mint annual set consists of nine United Kingdom coins issued in 1997. The collection is presented in its original red card folder with a blue and silver-toned decorative border bearing the legends 1997 UNITED KINGDOM and BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED COIN COLLECTION. The set includes a bi-metallic two pounds with technology reverse; a nickel-brass one pound featuring the Three Lions of England reverse; two cupro-nickel fifty pence coins of different sizes (the larger old standard and the smaller new standard introduced in 1997), both with the Britannia reverse; a heptagonal twenty pence with a crowned rose reverse; a ten pence with a crowned lion reverse; a five pence with a crowned thistle reverse; a copper-plated steel two pence with the Prince of Wales feathers reverse; and a copper-plated steel one penny with a crowned portcullis reverse. 1997 was a transitional year for the British fifty pence, and this set contains both the demonetised larger coin and its smaller replacement.
