Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises a pair of bulbous lidded jars, attributed to mid-20th-century West German ceramic production. Known as Rumtopf jars, these vessels are crafted from heavy ceramic, likely stoneware, and finished in a high-gloss dark olive green glaze with brown accents that settle into the recesses to provide contrast. Both jars feature a central circular medallion enclosed within a rope-twist border, positioned beneath the embossed word RUMTOPF in raised relief. One jar depicts a bunch of grapes in relief, while the second shows a single large fruit, possibly a peach or plum. The bodies and domed lids are decorated with moulded vertical ribbing. Each jar is fitted with two small looped handles at the shoulders and a matching lid with a circular finial. The interiors are finished with a plain brown glaze. No manufacturer’s marks are visible on the undersides of the bases, though the style is consistent with factories such as Scheurich or Bay Keramik.
