A commemorative or novelty presentation model of a miner’s safety lamp, based on the Type SL design produced by The Protector Lamp and Lighting Co Ltd of Eccles, Manchester. The item is constructed from turned and polished hardwood with decorative vertical fluting to the upper portion of the body. A circular brass plaque is pinned to the centre of the wooden body, inscribed with the following text: THE PROTECTOR LAMP & LIGHTING CO LTD ECCLES MAKERS TYPE SL MINISTRY OF POWER SAFETY LAMPS APPROVAL NO. B/120. The lamp is fitted with a brass top carry handle and hook. The lower section features a glass cylinder protected by four vertical brass rods, containing a white component representing a wick. The piece is finished with a matching turned wooden base.
