An Austrian Art Nouveau porcelain twin handled pedestal vase, produced by the Moritz Zdekauer factory in Altrohlau. The piece features a bulbous spherical body upon a flared pedestal foot, rising to a tapering neck with a flared rim. It is flanked by two ornate, openwork scrolling handles of organic, branch-like form. The central body is hand painted with a naturalistic spray of wildflowers, including oxeye daisies and a large orange poppy, set against a graduated cream to pale yellow ground. The neck and foot are embellished with moulded foliate motifs finished in teal and dark brown glazes with gilded accents. The rim and handles are similarly decorated with brown glaze and gilded highlights. The base bears several printed marks in terracotta: a circular mark with the characters MADE IN AUSTRIA surrounding the letters N I, a cartouche containing the letter M characteristic of the Moritz Zdekauer factory, and a crown-like symbol above a five-pointed star.
Height: 22.5 cm.
