An earthenware teapot of globular form produced by Gibson and Sons Ltd of Burslem, Staffordshire. The vessel features a multi-finish decorative scheme divided into horizontal bands. The upper shoulder, spout, handle, and domed lid with a spherical finial are finished with heavy gilding. The central section consists of a light blue matte band with white sprigged relief applications in the Jasperware style, depicting classical figures and foliage. The lower portion of the body is finished in a cream-coloured marbled or crackle-effect glaze. The base bears a black printed factory mark featuring a crown and scrolled banner containing the words GIBSONS and STAFFORDSHIRE, above MADE IN ENGLAND. A hand-painted pattern number D 672 is present in gold pigment on the underside.
