A mid-century style decorative three-dimensional wall plaque dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The piece depicts a stylised figure of an African woman in semi-profile, carrying a child on her back and a large, decorated globular vessel on her head. The woman is portrayed with closed eyes, full red-painted lips, and wears two metallic, gold-toned hoop earrings. Her hair is rendered with a tight, textured pattern. She is draped in a garment decorated with white polka dots and a red-and-white chevron-patterned border. The vessel on her head features hand-painted white zig-zag and red-and-white dot motifs. The item is constructed from cast plaster with a high-gloss black coating, designed to simulate ebony. The decorative elements are hand-painted in red, white, and gold-tone pigments. No maker’s marks, factory stamps, or signatures are visible on the front or sides of the piece.
Length: Approximately 40cm.
