Official silver commemorative medal issued by the Royal Mint to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. The obverse features the veiled Old Head design type with the surrounding Latin inscription VICTORIA ANNUM REGNI SEXAGESIMUM FELICITER CLAVDIT XX IVN. MDCCCXCVII. The name BETTY is hand-engraved in block capitals in the obverse field. The reverse depicts the Young Head design type positioned above the date 1837 and a laurel branch, with the biblical inscription LONGITVDO DIERVM IN DEXTERA EIVS ET IN SINISTRA GLORIA. This example has been modified for use as jewellery, featuring a drilled suspension hole at the top with an attached silver-coloured jump ring. The medal is consistent with the small official issue, catalogued as BHM-3506 or Eimer-1817.
