An antique brass instrument base plate for a Waymouth-Cooke naval rangefinder, manufactured by Alex Mabon and Sons, Glasgow. The circular brass face is engraved Alex Mabon and Sons Glasgow and is numbered 1361. It features two concentric scales graduated 0-360 degrees in 1-degree increments, with directional markings for N at the zero point and W at 270 degrees. The plate is fitted with two circular spirit bubble levels. The assembly includes two lateral mounting arms finished in a black coating. The central aperture and various mounting screws indicate this was the base for a more complex optical sighting instrument.
