An antique brass maritime instrument component, identified as a bearing plate or pelorus dial, manufactured by Alex Mabon and Sons of Glasgow. The circular plate is constructed from cast and machined brass and features two sets of concentric degree scales, both graduated from 0 to 360. The cardinal markers N and W are engraved at the 360 and 270 degree points respectively. The plate includes two integrated rectangular mounting wings on opposite sides. A central aperture is bordered by a raised, shouldered brass collar. Two larger circular apertures and several smaller mounting holes are distributed across the face of the dial. The reverse shows the base of the central collar and an auction label numbered 1001. The following text is engraved on the face: ALEX MABON & SONS, GLASGOW, Nº 1241.
