This is an antique West African short sword, characteristic of the Mandinka people and other groups within the Sahel and Sudan regions. The weapon features a straight steel blade that remains single-edged for the majority of its length, with a shallow fuller positioned near the spine. The blade tapers at the terminal end into a double-edged spear point. The hilt is cylindrical in form and entirely wrapped in dark, aged leather, lacking a crossguard or defined pommel. The accompanying scabbard is fashioned from hand-stitched leather, displaying a central seam with decorative stitching typical of the region’s leathercraft. A modern white adhesive lot label numbered 4656 is attached to the grip.

Blade Length: 56 cm
Total Length: 72 cm.
