A 20th century East African Maasai short sword, known as a Seme. The weapon features a double-edged steel blade of traditional spatulate form with a central medial ridge, tapering to a leaf-shaped point. The hilt is constructed with a simple cylindrical handle without a crossguard, covered in a blackened hide or leather wrapping. The sword is accompanied by its original hand-stitched leather scabbard, dyed black, featuring a wire-wrapped terminal at the tip. A white rectangular auction inventory label with the handwritten number 4656 is affixed to the hilt. No other maker’s marks or inscriptions are present on the blade or hilt.
