Two Himalayan hand-held prayer wheels, also known as Mani wheels, of traditional Tibetan Buddhist form and varying designs. The larger prayer wheel is constructed with a turned hardwood handle. Its central copper drum is encircled by a wide brass band featuring raised characters in an Indic-style script, characteristic of Ranjana or Tibetan script, traditionally representing the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. The drum is further embellished with inset turquoise and coral-coloured cabochons, and features chased floral or scrolling motifs on the copper caps. The smaller prayer wheel features a metal handle, possibly brass, which is wrapped in a textured wire or strip. Its copper drum is mounted with brass caps and shows raised symbolic characters around its circumference. A small white adhesive label marked with the numbers 100 is present on the handle of the smaller wheel.
