A Soviet-era Russian lacquer box from the Fedoskino school, hand-painted by the artist M. Korolev. The box is constructed from papier-mâché with a black lacquered exterior and features a detailed oil painting on the hinged lid. The scene depicts a pastoral landscape with a white horse and a brown foal grazing on a grassy bank beside a body of water. A rustic wooden cottage is shown in the foreground behind a fence, set amongst trees with autumn-coloured foliage. The lid is signed twice in Cyrillic gold lettering: the upper edge is inscribed М. Королев с. Федоскино (M. Korolev, s. [village of] Fedoskino) and the bottom right corner is signed М. Королев 1957 г. (M. Korolev, 1957). The base of the box is inscribed in English Made in USSR and bears the inventory number NKh 10 – 27954.
