This is a Russian lacquer box from the Fedoskino school, hand-painted by the artist Vasina. The lid features a finely executed miniature winter scene titled Dasha and her Thoughts (transliterated as Dasha i ee dumy). The composition depicts three figures dressed in traditional, ornate Russian costume set against a snowy village backdrop featuring a wooden church. The central figure is a woman in an elaborate red and gold patterned garment. The painting is framed by a delicate gold-leaf filigree scrollwork border. The box is constructed from papier-mache with a high-gloss black lacquer finish. The lower right corner of the lid bears a gold hand-painted Cyrillic inscription: г. ФЕДОСКИНО (g. Fedoskino), ДАША и ее ДУМЫ (Dasha i ee dumy), and ВАСИНА (Vasina). The underside of the box features a white circular printed mark depicting a double-headed eagle, surrounded by the text РУССКИЙ СУВЕНИР (RUSSKIY SUVENIR) and RUSSIAN SOUVENIR, indicating late 20th-century production intended for the export or souvenir market.
