A late 19th or early 20th-century armchair designed in the nautical revival style. The frame is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood and is intricately carved to simulate heavy twisted manrope throughout. It features a circular backrest with an inset panel of traditional six-way woven cane, surmounted by a carved shell-motif cresting. The sinuous, S-curved arms continue the rope-twist motif and terminate in scrolled hand-grips. The curved, over-stuffed seat is upholstered in a deep red leather with a distressed patina, secured with brass-headed nail trim. The piece is supported by four splayed legs with matching rope-carved decoration.
