An oval Russian lacquer box, handcrafted from papier-mâché, featuring a detailed miniature painting on the lid. The scene depicts a young child dressed in a yellow floral-patterned headscarf and a fur-trimmed coat, holding a bullfinch against a winter landscape with snow-covered trees. The lid is signed in silver Cyrillic script on the upper right edge Khudozh. Romanova (Худож. Романова), identifying the artist, and on the lower right edge Fedoskino (Федоскино), denoting the village of origin. The exterior is finished in polished black lacquer with a silver-coloured scrolling border encircling the lid. The interior is coated in a traditional cinnabar-red lacquer. The box is fitted with a small metal hinge.
