A contemporary Russian lacquer box of oval form, crafted from papier-mache in the village of Fedoskino. The lid features a hand-painted oil landscape depicting two cranes amidst marshland at sunset, rendered using the traditional school technique of translucent glazes over a reflective ground to achieve a luminous finish. The central scene is framed by a border of silver-coloured floral scrollwork, which is repeated on the black lacquered exterior sides. The interior is finished in a traditional red lacquer. The base of the interior bears a handwritten inscription in silver paint: Федоскино “Цапли” Худ. Глотов В. 2001 г. (transliterated: Fedoskino “Tsapli” Khudozhnik Glotov V. 2001 g.), which translates as Fedoskino “Cranes” Artist V. Glotov 2001.
