A small, japanned tinplate storage box with a D-shaped profile and a hinged lid, likely intended as a playing card holder. The exterior is finished in black lacquer and decorated in the Chinoiserie style with transfer-printed and hand-finished gilt-toned scenes of pagodas, rocky landscapes, and stylised trees, highlighted with accents of red and green paint. The edges feature a repeating scalloped gilt border, while the vertical face of the lid is decorated with a floral and geometric band. The interior is finished in a uniform black lacquer.
