Buyer's Premium:

A Victorian and Edwardian era Primrose League Special Service Medal, manufactured by the official medalists T. & J. Bragg of Birmingham and London. This attribution is confirmed by the gold-blocked maker’s mark on the interior silk lining of the presentation case, which also notes prize medals from 1862, 1872, and 1884. The gilt-metal decoration consists of a central letter P within a wreath of primroses, surmounted by an Imperial Crown. The wreath incorporates small scrolls bearing the League’s mottos, with Liberty clearly visible. The medal is suspended from its original yellow silk moiré ribbon, which is fitted with an unusually large assembly of eight enamelled clasps documenting a decade of service.

The top mounting bar is adorned with two white enamel primroses and a crown. The subsequent bars are inscribed with blue enamel as follows: Special Service 1898, Special Service 1899, General Election 1900, Special Service 1900, Special Service 1901, Special Service 1902, Special Service 1903, and Special Service 1905. The General Election 1900 bar refers to the historic Khaki Election held during the Second Boer War. The medal is housed in its original blue velvet and silk-lined fitted presentation case.
