The mare is depicted in a standing pose with her head turned, while the foal stands alongside. Both are mounted upon an oval wooden plinth which bears a black adhesive label printed in gold with the text BLACK BEAUTY AND FOAL A CONNOISSEUR MODEL BY BESWICK ENGLAND. The second figurine is a recumbent foal finished in a chestnut brown gloss glaze with black points to the mane, tail, and hooves, and a white blaze to the forehead. The underside of the recumbent foal bears a printed black mark reading BESWICK ENGLAND and a small hand-painted character W.
