A mid-Victorian? quarto Holy Bible of substantial form, bound in dark brown full leather with decorative blind-stamping to the front and back boards. The spine features gilded lettering reading HOLY BIBLE. The title page identifies the work as The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, printed by C. J. Clay at the University Press, Cambridge, for the British and Foreign Bible Society. The text block includes the Royal printing privilege Cum Privilegio. The binding is executed in a traditional 19th-century style with deep floral and geometric embossed borders to the covers. The pages exhibit heavy toning and foxing consistent with the period of manufacture, and the edges of the text block are darkened.
