A mid-19th-century earthenware punch bowl of large, footed circular form. The exterior is decorated with polychrome transfer-printed motifs including a commemorative Crimean War alliance print. This motif features the British Union Jack and the French Tricolour flags flanking a central scroll inscribed CRIMEA, with a lion and an eagle. It bears the printed text MAY THEY EVER BE UNITED, VIVE L’EMPEREUR, and GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. A second exterior motif consists of a floral wreath enclosing a sentimental poem: Remember me, When this you see, And keep me in your mind, For let the World, Say what they will, Speak of me as you find. The interior is decorated with three distinct transfers: a maritime scene titled SAILORS FAREWELL with a four-line verse, a circular view titled VIEW OF THE CAST IRON BRIDGE OVER THE WEAR, and a humorous verse within a floral border beginning WOMEN MAKE MEN LOVE. The rim, foot, and interior walls are further embellished with hand-painted wavy pink metallic lustre splashes characteristic of Sunderland production.
