A hand-carved wooden washing bat or laundry paddle of rectangular form, traditionally used for beating clothes during the washing process. The paddle is constructed from a single piece of dark-toned hardwood, featuring a cylindrical integral handle. The face of the blade is decorated with folk-style chip-carving, including six-petalled hexfoil rosettes within circles at both the upper and lower sections, flanked by stylized floral sprays and leaf-like fronds. A central rectangular border contains the carved cursive inscription Viki Errelez. over the date 1892, set between double incised lines. The reverse remains unadorned, showing the natural grain of the timber.
