An early 20th-century lithographed tinplate confectionery container, designed for shop counter display or bulk toffee sale. The vessel features a distinctive D-shaped profile with a curved front and a flat reverse, allowing it to sit flush against a wall or shelf. The lithography is executed in a palette of dark green, black, and copper-gold tones. The front panel is decorated with the text G.W.J. DAINTY BITS in stylized lettering, flanked by the phrase 12 VARIETIES DELICIOUS TOFFEES. This central panel is framed by a repeating graphic border of crown shapes, which contain the small printed letters C.W.S. and the word SILVERTOWN. The hinged lid is finished in a turquoise blue ground, featuring a central crest and text reading G.W.J. DAINTY BITS above SILVERTOWN in yellow block capitals. The lid is fitted with a simple wire hinge and a protruding metal thumb-latch. The interior and base show the raw, darkened surface of the tinplate construction.
Height: 15″.
