Lot 95: A Pair of George VI White Metal Second World War Medals

A pair of British Second World War campaign medals including The Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945, constructed from white metal. The Defence Medal features an obverse with the effigy of King George VI and the inscription GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP. The reverse displays two lions flanking a crown and an oak tree above stylised waves, dated 1939 and 1945. The War Medal 1939-1945 depicts the same royal effigy to the obverse with the inscription GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP, while the reverse shows a lion standing over a fallen two-headed dragon. The lot is accompanied by a brown cardboard O.H.M.S. postal box with a black circular postmark reading PAID and a printed address label for M. J. Davis Esq., 31 Colebrooke Road, Aigburth, Liverpool 17. Also included is a printed award slip from the Under-Secretary of State for War bearing the Royal Coat of Arms in red ink and the mottoes DIEU ET MON DROIT and HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The medals are unnamed as issued and are presented with their respective ribbons.
