A late 19th-century maritime oil painting executed on a wooden panel, depicting a dramatic shipwreck scene. The composition features a two-masted sailing vessel struggling against turbulent, foaming waves near a dark, rugged cliff face. The artist has utilised a muted palette dominated by greys, browns, and whites, with textured impasto brushwork employed to represent the sea spray and the heavy, overcast atmosphere of the storm. The work is signed in the lower left corner in dark paint, reading E. K. Redmore. The painting is housed in a substantial Victorian-style gilt composition frame featuring ornate acanthus leaf and scrolling foliate motifs in relief. The verso of the piece reveals a dark-stained wood panel support with a central vertical join and brown paper tape applied to the edges.
