A mid-20th-century ceramic character bank depicting the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon characters Tom and Jerry. The earthenware piece is modelled in the round and features Tom the cat in a grey and cream colour scheme, carrying a large red barrel secured to his back with a light-blue moulded rope. Jerry the mouse is depicted emerging from the top of the barrel. The barrel is finished with a wood-grain texture and features the words TOM AND JERRY in raised, moulded lettering across the front. The figures are set upon an integral green-painted base. The item functions as a coin bank, featuring a narrow slot on the side of the barrel and a large circular access hole on the underside. The base of the bank features faint, impressed marks that are partially legible as LOEW’S INC. Below this, further impressed text is visible but illegible, though a numerical mark 26 is distinguishable.
