A Victorian silver open faced pocket watch featuring a highly ornate silvered dial. The dial is decorated with radial engine-turning and applied rose and yellow gold-tone Roman numeral hour markers, interspersed with foliate motifs and a subsidiary seconds dial at the 3 o’clock position. It is fitted with blued steel hands and housed behind a glass crystal within a silver case. The watch is a key-wound and key-set model, accompanied by a separate base metal winding key. The interior of the case back is struck with the number 4 9 6 3 9 above the initials J.B? and a series of Birmingham hallmarks. These include the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the date letter Q for 1890. A small letter g is also struck below. The pendant and bow also bear a lion passant mark and a corresponding date letter in a shield. The movement is protected by an inner silver dust cover.
