A sterling silver novelty pill box or locket, constructed in the form of a miniature hardcover book. The piece features a rectangular case with three sides engine-turned to simulate the textured edges of book pages. The front cover is decorated with a raised rectangular border accented by scrolled fleur-de-lis style motifs at each corner, while the reverse remains plain. The box is secured by a functional wrap-around tension clasp that hooks over a small stud on the front cover, connected to a three-part barrel hinge. The interior is hollow and includes a recessed frame on the inside of the lid, suitable for use as a locket. The interior base of the box is stamped with the numerical mark 925, signifying sterling silver fineness.
