A set of six hand-coloured stipple engravings from the Cries of London series, after the original paintings by Francis Wheatley, R.A. (1747–1801). Each print depicts a traditional itinerant street vendor in an 18th-century urban setting, executed with fine tonal gradations and delicate hand-colouring. The subjects include Plate 10 ‘Old Chairs to mend’, Plate 6 ‘Knives, Scissors and Razors to grind’, Plate 1 ‘Two Bunches a Penny Primroses’, Plate 11 ‘A New Love Song, only ha’penny a piece’, Plate 4 ‘Do you want any Matches?’, and Plate 5 ‘New Mackrel, New Mackrel’. Each plate is inscribed ‘Painted by F. Wheatley R.A.’ to the lower left, with the series title ‘CRIES of LONDON’ and bilingual French and English descriptions centered below the image. The prints show distinct plate marks and are housed in uniform glazed mahogany-finish frames with gilt beaded inner slips and cream-coloured mounts.
Plate Mark: Approximately 32 cm x 23 cm.
