A hand-knotted wool rug of Caucasian Shirvan? / Kazak? style, featuring a geometric tribal composition. The rug is centred by a large, complex cruciform medallion in ivory, blue, and ochre, flanked by two smaller blue-ground geometric medallions upon a madder-red field. The field is densely populated with various small geometric and floral filler motifs. The main border displays a repeating serrated leaf and wine glass pattern on an ivory ground, framed by multiple minor guard borders. The corner spandrels are rendered in deep indigo blue with stylized floral heads. The construction consists of a thick wool pile on a wool or cotton? foundation, finished with short, cream wool fringes at both ends.
