A Victorian? heavy cast iron boot scraper of domestic utilitarian form. The piece is constructed with a central horizontal scraping bar supported by two scrolling integral uprights, each featuring molded decorative elements and scroll terminals. These supports are mounted onto a wide, rectangular drip tray base. The base is decorated with a textured, scrolling foliate border and an integral recessed well for the collection of debris. The object exhibits a weathered finish with remnants of black paint or japanning over a heavily oxidised surface. The heavy sand-casting provides stability for functional use as an entryway or garden ornament.
Length: Approximately 40.5 cm.
