A British Army map case of heavy-duty khaki webbing construction, designed for use by dispatch riders and officers. The exterior features two adjustable straps with brass buckles for attachment to a belt or harness, and a roll-up canvas cover secured by two brass press-stud fasteners. The interior contains a dark brown celluloid? backing board with four spring-loaded metal corner clips designed to hold maps in place. A partial vintage paper map is present, depicting a section of the Hertfordshire and Essex border. Legible place names include Sawbridgeworth, Harlow, Sheering, High Wych, and Matching, alongside the London & North Eastern Railway line. Faint, illegible markings in black ink are present on the rolled section of the canvas, which appear to be a service number or unit identification but cannot be read as specific characters. One brass fastener is missing its cap, and the celluloid? board shows a heavily scuffed surface with white residue.
