A rectangular decorative casket? / jewellery box constructed from a dark hardwood, likely sheesham. The exterior is extensively decorated with tarkashi, an Indian? brass inlay technique. The lid features a central circular medallion containing scrolling vine work and heart-shaped leaves, flanked by arch motifs with similar foliage. The edges of the lid and the front panel are adorned with a repeating series of circular brass dots and stylized floral sprigs. The box is built with a flush closure and operates on two small brass hinges. The interior is divided into two compartments, one wider and one narrower, and is fully lined with a red crushed velvet effect material. The hinges are secured with small slotted brass screws.
