A late Victorian or Edwardian earthenware jardiniere and matching pedestal set, finished in a deep monochromatic brown Rockingham type glaze. The jardiniere bowl features a flared, bulbous form with a scalloped pie-crust rim and is decorated in high relief with large sunflower-like blossoms within circular cartouches. The tall cylindrical pedestal is similarly decorated with botanical motifs and textured stippled backgrounds, separated by architectural mouldings including beading and gadrooning. The pedestal terminates in a stepped circular foot. The translucent lead-based glaze has pooled in the recesses of the relief moulding to accentuate the floral designs. The interior of the bowl shows characteristic glaze wear and mineral staining consistent with use as a planter.
