A French style armillary sphere of complex construction, featuring a polished brass effect finish. The instrument is designed as a celestial model with a central terrestrial globe? surrounded by a series of interlocking rings representing the celestial equator, tropics, and polar circles. A prominent wide band represents the ecliptic, decorated with engraved zodiacal symbols and names including SCORPIO, SAGITTARIUS, AQUARIUS, PISCES, and CANCER, each accompanied by a 30-degree scale. The assembly is mounted on a fixed central axis topped with a decorative arrow-shaped pointer, supported within a large vertical meridian ring featuring a degree scale graduated from 0 to 90 in four quadrants. The meridian ring bears the engraved inscription A PARIS Chez G. Gobille a P. Royale. The entire sphere is supported by a turned pedestal stem on a tiered square plinth base.
