A pair of hand-carved dark hardwood salad servers in the Polynesian? or Tiki? style, comprising a large four-tine fork and a corresponding large spoon. The handles are elaborately carved with stacked, stylized anthropomorphic figures, featuring prominent facial features and geometric body forms reminiscent of Oceanic deity motifs. Each piece is constructed from a single piece of dense, dark-stained timber, exhibiting visible hand-tool marks within the recesses of the decorative carving. A small circular hole is drilled through the terminal of each handle, presumably for a hanging cord. The wood is finished with a dark stain and a matte patina. There are no maker’s marks or inscriptions visible on either item.
